A
Alpine- one of the basic ride styles, it is characterized by high speed and cut turnings Air- simple jump (in the air) both on the slope and in the pipe Alleyoop Airs – jumps in the pipe or in the corner, when the rider makes a turn in the air, in the opposite to his riding direction Air to Fakie – jump in the pipe or in the corner when the rider is invading on his leg and he is landing in the switch setting, changing his riding direction. Asymmetrical- asymmetrical board construction
B
Back- back part of the soft binding, holding the leg. There is a highback and lowback Back Flip- back somersault which is made round the oblong axis of the board Back Loop- back somersault, which is made round the transverse axis of the board Backside- a general term used to define the riding and making tricks on the back edge, or making the turns backwards to ride direction B/S- abbreviation from backside Bail- controlled downfall Bank- flat walls of the pipe Blont- stop on the pipe edge Bone- jumping style, where one leg is raised and the second one is upright Buckle- a clamp in the soft binding
C
Camber- board convexity Canting- a wedge situated under the binding in order to change his inclination ankle CAP- board construction, where the up surface of the board and the side walls are made of one element of the material Carve- riding on the edges Carving- riding style which consists in making full and long turns on edges Contact- it’s a type of soft bindings, where the boot is situated directly on the snowboard surface Contest- snowboard competition Coping- halfpipe’s edge Core- snowboard pith, it’s an inner part of the snowboard, mostly made of timber Corner- it’s a ski jump type, where the rider can land on the both sides of the landing area Cut- these are all competitors, who enters the final during the contest Carve / edge- metal part of the board situated along the slide both on the nose and on the tail Cross axis of the board- it leads on the middle part of the board, between bindings, from f/s to b/s carve
D
Downhill- covering specified distance on time Drop in- it’s an entry to the pipe which is beginning the passage Duck- setting of front leg binding on “plus” grades and back leg bindings on “minus” (on the opposite direction)
E
Efficient carve- this part of the carve which has a direct contact withe the snow during the ride

Fakie- riding backwards, presently we use terms “switch” and “cab” Fall line- it’s the shortest line between the highest and the lowest point on the slope FIS- Federation International de Ski Flat- bottom, flat part of the halfpipe Flip- somersault in the air which is made round the oblong axis of the board Freestyle- one of the basic ride styles. It consists in making jumps and various tricks in the air and on the snow Freeride- basic ride style which consists in riding outside the appointed runs, in the deep powder Frontloop- front somersault which is made round the transverse axis of the board Frontside- a general term to define riding and making tricks on the front edge of the snowboard F/S- abbreviation from frontside Funbox- it’s a snowy object in the shape of trapezium. It is composed of a ride area, ski jump with a looping and a flat section with a jump which turns into steep landing area
G
Gap- artifically made snow construction for making jumps. It is composed of jump and landing area, and behind them there is an empty space- gap Goofy- it’s a person whose front leg is the right one Grab- the easiest trick which consists in catching the board during the flight
H
Halfpipe- special snow construction in the shape of a gutter in which a snowboarder makes tricks Handplant- it’s a group of tricks in which a competitor puts his hands on the pipe’s coping, and his head is below the board Handrail- definition of a railing, on which the snowboarder slides. It’s an element of equipment in many snowparks Hardcore- riding in very dificult conditions, often with a very high speed Hard boot- it’s a boot designed for hard bindings and characteristic for alpine style Highback- look “back” High Top Bindings- three-buckles soft binding used in freeride Hiking- mountaineering on foot with a snowboard Hip- two quarterpipes or banks standing one after another Hol- board curve at it’s middle part connected with its construction HH- abbreviation from hands

Indy- a trick in which a snowboarder catches the front edge of the board with his back hand between bindings Inserts- metal holes in the board which enable screwing the bindings Inverted Airs- jumps in which during the flight phase head is below the board ISF- International Snowboard Federation
J
Jam Session- one of the contest organization forms. Competitors aren’t appraised by judges but by other competitors and the audience Judges- jurors Jump- ground configuration which makes it possible to jump; very popular jump definition but also a ski jump made of the snow
L
Late- evolution made with a delay Launch- single jump Leash- fastening belt Looping- profile of the jump threshold, from which riders jump LL- abbreviation from legs
M
Mc Twist- a trick in which competitor makes a turn round horizontal and vertical axis simultaneously, to the backside Malon Grab- a trick in which front hand catches back edge between bindings (hand doesn’t go between legs) Method Air- a trick in which a competitor catches with his front hand back edge close to the nose or between bindings, and his body looks like an arc Mute Grab- a trick in which competitor catches the front carve with his front hand, between bindings

Nose- it’s the front part of the board Nose Grab- catching the front part of the board Nose Kick- pulling up the nose of the board
O
Off the Lip- tight turnings on the snow bank Ollie- popular name of simple jump One Eighty- a full revolution made during the jump round the vertical axis of the body One Footer- jumps made with just one foot fastened Oblong axis of the board- it leads from the nose to the tail of the board

Pipe Dragon- it’s a snowgroomer which is equipped with special appliance which is used for halfpipe forming P-Tex- it’s a kind of material, from which the slide is made Plate Bindings- hard bindings Platform- upper, wide part of the halfpipe Powder- it’s a down, kind of the snow Push- accelerating turn with a pressure PZS- Polish Snowboard Federation

Quarterpipe- it’s the half of the pipe, one wall of the pipe Rad- sharply, radically Rail- it’s a handrail used for making tricks Ramp- it’s a snowboard jump Regular- it’s a person whose front leg is the left one Rider- a competitor, person who rides a snowboard Rip- fast, sharp riding Roundtail- rounded back of the snowboard

Sandwich- stratified snowboard construction Schell bindings- bindings for soft boots Session- group riding Sidewalk- platform Slam- effective, controlled downfall Slide- trick in which rider slides on the metal pipe, rail, box etc. Slopestyle- it’s a snowboard competition in which competitors make jumps and tricks sliding down the specially prepared way- snowpark- which is abounded with jumps and other obstacles Skatchy- riding on the border of downfall Snowboard Cross- snowboard olympic competition in which 4 competitors are racing simultaneously on the specially prepared route Snowpark- run on which there are situated boxes, jumps, rails etc Spin- flat turning round the vertical axis of the body Spine- joint between back walls of two pipes Stick- landing after making difficult trick Stiffie- it’s a jump in whcih both legs are erect and the back hand holds front carve Step-In- it’s a kind of bindings where the boot is fastened to these bindings with the use of special mechanism Switch- in other wodrs “fakie”. Colloquially “cab” Stalefish- a trick in which a competitor catches with his back hand the back carve between bindings Slide- down part of the snowboard which has a direct contact with the snow Stomp pad- it’s a piece of rubber or another material situated between bindings where you put your leg during the ride on a T-bar lift Shrunken position- position which rider adopts during the flight phase while catching the board

Tail- back part of the snowboard Tailkick- tail pulling up Tail Grab- rider catches the back of the snowboard during the jump Three Sixty- a full revolution made during the jump Top Sheet- top layer of the board Torsional Flex- board “bending” at its oblong axis Transfer- jumping on a ski jump with a break between jump edge and landing area Transiton- semicircular part of the halfpipe Tweak- turnings in jumps Twist- turnings along vertical and horizontal axes of the body
